The Deerfield School Board

Representing the community’s voice in our local education system, the Deerfield School Board sets the standard for achievement in the Deerfield School District.

The school board has five members who are each elected for a three-year term. A board chair position is elected annually by the members. One member of the Deerfield School Board is elected annually to serve on the SAU Executive Board while all members belong to the full SAU board. The Executive Board traditionally meets once a month while the Full Board meets twice a year.

In addition to establishing the policies under which DCS operates, the School Board also oversees DCS administration and annual expenditures and revenues of the school district. The board’s annual budget-setting process balances and aligns Deerfield School District resources with DCS’s vision, community input, and federal and state requirements.

Important documents, including minutes, financial information, budgets, and policies can be found on the SAU website.

Board Meetings

Board meetings are held the first and third Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Deerfield Community School library. (Scheduled meetings are subject to change without notice.)

The school board welcomes and encourages public participation in the local governance of Deerfield’s education system, and time is set aside at the beginning of each meeting to receive public comment. If you wish to have an issue presented at a board meeting, please put your concern in writing and send it to the superintendent’s attention at the SAU office.

The inclusion of items suggested by citizens shall be at the discretion of the chair of the board and in compliance with policy BEDB.
