The DCS Pre-School Program

At the DCS Preschool Program, we focus on working together with students and their families to meet children where they are developmentally and move them forward. Our learning environment enables children to acquire social, emotional, motor, language, and cognitive skills that are the foundation for success in kindergarten and beyond.

Our Approach to Learning

The DCS Preschool Program is an activity-based program, geared toward meeting children at their current developmental levels and encouraging progress and success. Classroom activities are designed by teachers and therapists to focus on children’s needs in a variety of skill areas such as math, literacy, social, language, gross and fine motor, self care, and play skills.

We follow the Teaching Strategies GOLD Curriculum (TSG), which looks at the whole child, and the development of social, math, literacy, language, physical, and cognitive skills.

On a day-to-day basis, our classroom schedule includes whole group activities such as circle time, read alouds, and outdoor play, as well as small group activities that focus math, literacy, fine motor, and social skills. Our daily routine also includes snack time, free-play opportunities, music, and movement.

Schedule

Our preschool program groups student by age. The program for 3- and 4-year-olds takes place two days a week and the program for 4 and 5-year-olds is three days a week. Each class is available in either morning or afternoon sessions.

Current Schedule:

  • 3 and 4 year olds: Tuesday, Thursday (morning or afternoon)
  • 4 and 5 year olds: Monday, Wednesday, Friday (morning or afternoon)

The DCS Preschool follows the DCS School Calendar, with the exception of our start and end dates, which typically are 1 to 2 days after the DCS start date and 1 to 2 days before the DCS end date.
