The fifth grade classes of the Deerfield Community School, students of Ms. Maxfield, Mrs. Potter and Mrs. Tatulis, form the Dragon Calendar Company, which makes and sells calendars every year. This wonderful economics project helps raise money for a field trip to Boston, which includes hiking the Freedom Trail and attending the Boston Museum of Science Camp-in Program. Grade 5 students have been making calendars since 1990.

The Dragon Calendar Company has a great working relationship with Concord-based printing company Town and Country Reprographics, which continued when it was purchased by Keystone Press. As part of this business, students apply for jobs to sell stocks, form retail and sales committees, and have bookkeepers who monitor the company’s funds. The even have an Executive Board, whose members make important company decisions.

This year, our sales kick-off and unveiling occurred on Monday, November 19th. Executive Board members made speeches before sales officially opened. Calendars on sale are “Our Big Blue World, Save the Threatened and Endangered Animals” and “Amazing World of Biomes.”

If you are interested in purchasing one of our awesome products for the 2019 calendar year, please contact one of the fifth grade teachers. Order forms are also available from any fifth grade student. These calendars make great gifts and support our students’ fundraising efforts.
