What is a Girls who code club?

Girls Who code Clubs are meant for girls to join our sisterhood of supportive peers and role models, and use Computer Science to change the world. When you join a club, you will be able to learn from fun and simple online coding tutorials, build community through interactive activities, and learn about inspiring role models. You then work in teams to design and build a Girls Who Code Project that solves real world problems you care about through code!

Happenings in the 7th Grade from the Fladd/Hogan Advisory

Part of our routine in Advisory is Signing In.

At the beginning of each Advisory Period, as the students’ advisor, I write a question on the white board at the front of the classroom. This could be serious – “What do you see yourself doing in ten years?” – or more whimsical – “What is the best flavor of ice cream?” Each student writes their name on the board, with an answer to the question. Once everyone has taken a seat, each student shares what they have written and explains it in more detail. Sometimes this leads to a discussion; sometimes we just share, then move on to other activities.

Once everyone has taken a seat, each student shares what they have written and explains it in more detail. Sometimes this leads to a discussion; sometimes we just share, then move on to other activities. One of the purposes of Advisory is to get to know each student better and for them to get to know each other. Seeing what their peers have written gives the students a chance to bond in a small way. They get a chance to see that the other students around them have fears like they do or are goofy, like they are or that people they thought they knew very well still have the ability to surprise them.
